Recently named a New York City 40 Under 40 Rising Star, Chapin Fay is an attorney with 20 years of experience in strategic communications, crisis management and political consulting.
At Mercury, Chapin serves as a media strategist and crisis counselor for Fortune 500 companies, advocacy organizations, individuals and political candidates. Prior to joining Mercury, he spent over 15 years working in politics and government, including as Press Secretary and Director of Public Affairs for New York Governor George E. Pataki, where he managed statewide press offices, developed and executed messaging campaigns and served as the lead media contact. Chapin has extensive media relations experience, a network of New York, D.C. and national press contacts and has been quoted on the record extensively. He provides commentary and analysis to national and local media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, NY1 and Pix 11 News, among others.
Chapin has managed numerous statewide public affairs and political campaigns, where he has built teams from the ground up, developed and executed all strategic and media plans and managed multi-million dollar budgets. He also has national campaign experience, having spent a cycle at the National Republican Congressional Committee in Washington, D.C. advising candidates across the country.
During his time in D.C., Chapin also served as Counsel to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, managing hearings, conducting investigations and drafting legislation, as well as developing, executing and negotiating legislative strategy for the entire Committee and all subcommittees.
Chapin’s private sector experience includes a management position in the research group of a healthcare-based financial services firm, where he was a Series 65 licensed investment advisor.
Chapin holds a B.A. from Amherst College, a J.D. from Fordham Law School and is licensed to practice law in New York State.
