Gabriela Castillo is a Vice President at Mercury Florida, where she specializes in strategic communications, government and media relations, issue advocacy and digital strategy in both English and Spanish. She brings vast experience in public affairs, politics and communications to her role.

Gabriela was formerly the Communications Director for City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, where she advised the Mayor and managed all internal and external communications strategies and public relations for his office. She was also the Communications Director for Mayor Suarez’s 2017 mayoral campaign and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s reelection campaign in 2016.

Prior to entering the fast-paced political campaign world, Gabriela focused her legal practice on all phases of the government procurement process, including identifying contracting opportunities and assisting with proposal preparation and compliance. She led and supported public affairs and advocacy communication campaigns for companies and nonprofit organizations in the transit, aviation, technology, construction, health services and hospitality industries. Gabriela also advised clients on grassroots campaigns, crisis management and community outreach efforts.

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Gabriela graduated from Florida International University College of Law, where she received a Pro Bono Service Excellence Award and was selected to the Florida Supreme Court Internship Program for distinguished law students. She was a judicial intern for the Honorable Barbara Lagoa at the Florida Third District Court of Appeal and a legal intern at the City of Miami Attorney’s Office and the Miami-Dade County School Board Attorney’s Office.

Before law school, Gabriela was an Account Executive at a public affairs and public relations firm, where she implemented and managed bilingual campaigns for their healthcare, nonprofit and federal government clients. During her tenure, she generated hundreds of media hits and millions of media impressions in both the general and Hispanic markets.

After earning her B.S. in communications from Florida International University, Gabriela was a Booking Producer for Maria Elvira Live, a Spanish language, nightly news program. There, she built strong relationships with producers and reporters, as well as commentators, political analysts and leading figures in national politics and foreign policy.
