George Birnbaum is a Managing Director in Mercury’s London office. He is an international political consultant who has worked on dozens of United States congressional and senatorial races and international presidential and prime ministerial campaigns. His experience includes political consulting, campaign management, polling, paid media and grassroots coalition building.

George began his career managing congressional campaigns in North Carolina, Florida and Virginia. In 1996, he served as Deputy Political Director and Director of Survey Research under National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Alfonse D’Amato. George worked on a dozen races in an election where Republicans broke the historical pattern and won two seats in the U.S. Senate.

In 1998, George advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his re-election campaign and later served as Chief of Staff. He has since consulted and managed campaigns throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America, including for Prime Minister of Israel Ariel Sharon, Chancellor of Austria Alfred Gusenbauer, Prime Minister of Bulgaria Sergei Stanishev, Prime Minister of Romania Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Necas, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi and President of Serbia Boris Tadić. George has also worked in Ukraine, Malta and Kazakhstan in various capacities as a strategic consultant for national political parties and various leaders.

In 2015, George served as campaign strategist and Chief Middle East Policy Advisor for U.S. presidential candidate, Dr. Ben Carson. He also co-chaired debate preparation for candidate Carson and developed communication strategies for the campaign.

Prior to joining Mercury, George was a Partner at Avenue Strategies, a full-service government affairs and political consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. At Avenue, he helped elect Marta Lucía Ramírez the first female Vice President of Colombia in 2018 and advised Avigdor Lieberman and his Yisrael Beiteinu political party in the 2019 Israeli national elections.
