She specialises in strategic communications, media relations and crisis management, with 15 years of experience in international journalism and another five years in corporate marketing. She has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa.

Prior to joining Mercury, Zharina was a senior journalist at Al Jazeera English. She drove the network’s global coverage as News Editor, working closely with senior reporters, anchors and field crews to shape the daily output. As a senior field producer, Zharina covered breaking news stories including European terror attacks, the Brexit/Catalan referendums, Syria talks and the Cannes Film Festival.

Zharina has also worked for CNN International, writing and producing both news and business programmes. During her time there she also won an award for her coverage of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Before CNN, Zharina worked for Reuters Television where she launched a new product for emerging markets, delivering specialised broadcast content to India and China. This was on top of her agency work where she reported on general and specialist news internationally, producing daily voice packages. Zharina has also worked for the BBC, both in TV and radio, and local radio in Wales.

Zharina spent five years in brand management and marketing, working for Procter & Gamble in Australasia and NetHawk in Finland.

Zharina holds a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism from Cardiff University and a B.S. in Management Information Systems and minor in French from the Ateneo de Manila University.
