Mercury Expands to San Francisco

Jennifer Wlach will Lead the Bay Area Office, Building on National Strategic Media Relations, Executive Consulting and Public Affairs Management Capabilities of the Firm’s West Coast Operations

San Francisco, CA – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, announced today the launch of a new San Francisco office, led by senior communications strategist and veteran network television producer, Jennifer Wlach. Newly promoted to Managing Director, Wlach makes the transition to the west coast after a six-year tenure in Mercury’s Washington D.C. office.

“The launch of Mercury San Francisco with a powerhouse like Jennifer creates additional top-tier national capabilities to our California operation,” said Fabian Núñez, Mercury partner and former speaker of the California State Assembly. “Jen has done outstanding work leading major public affairs and media relations campaigns, building a portfolio that spans nearly every sector. We are thrilled to welcome this high caliber, high-energy talent to the West coast.”

Wlach joined Mercury in 2013, following a decade-long career in broadcast journalism. In her years with the firm she has worked with clients across a host of issues areas, including: healthcare, technology, infrastructure, urban innovation and education. In addition to her work in public affairs and media strategy, Wlach has helped expand Mercury’s work in executive consulting and thought leadership, working to identify and amplify the voices of key opinion leaders on the global stage.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to launch a new office and grow Mercury’s footprint in a crucial market,” said Wlach. “The last six years have afforded me the chance to build an incredible foundation in public affairs consulting, working with innovators and organizations that are effecting global change. I am excited to bring that knowledge to the Bay area, working with the Mercury California team to build upon their impressive body of work.”

Prior to Mercury, Wlach spent a decade as a producer and booker in network television news. She spent the majority of her journalism career with ABC News, leading the political booking effort for Good Morning America. Wlach honed her skills in long-form storytelling as a producer for the HDNet news magazine show World Report, covering a host of domestic and international issues. At the end of the 2012 election cycle, Wlach finished her second tenure with ABC News and joined Mercury as the firm’s first senior media strategist.

“We are pleased to plant a flag in the Bay area with a seasoned Mercury expert who embodies our culture, and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to a diverse marketplace,” said Mercury CEO Kieran Mahoney. “There is no other city in the world where our capabilities better align with the challenges facing the public and private sectors. Jennifer’s media and policy purview will be impactful for start-ups and multinational corporations alike.”

The San Francisco office is the latest expansion news for Mercury California. Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined the firm as Co-Chairman in November 2018, and in January, former California Senate Communications Director Anthony Reyes joined the firm’s Los Angeles office in the role of Senior Vice President.
