Global Bipartisan Firm Welcomes Senior Political Strategist and Former Assistant Trade Representative
New York, NY – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, today announced the addition of Omar Khan to its New York City office. Mr. Khan, who most recently served as the Assistant Trade Representative for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement in the Executive Office under President Obama, joins Mercury as a Senior Vice President.
“Mercury prides itself on bringing together the smartest political minds across party lines,” said Mercury Partner Michael McKeon. “Omar’s experience on the international and domestic business platform, his state and federal politics, and versatile expertise in policy and regulatory affairs, will be an immediate asset to our work here in New York, in Washington, D.C., in his home state of Florida and nationwide.”
The hiring of Khan is part of Mercury’s commitment to pull together accomplished leaders in media, business, politics, and government to solve problems and craft winning strategies for clients.
Prior to his work as a United States Trade Representative, Mr. Khan served as the Director for Public Engagement for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He also held the role of Director of Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations for the Hurricane Sandy Recovery Task Force.
“Mercury is known throughout the country for its incomparable team, and I am thrilled to be joining the ranks of such a sharp, successful and savvy group doing good and important work,” Khan said. “I am eager to put the skills and tools developed during my decade in politics to work in the public affairs arena.”
In addition to his work in the Obama administration, Mr. Khan has extensive experience in political campaigns. As Campaign Manager on Charlie Christ’s 2014 gubernatorial campaign, Khan helped achieve the best democratic electoral margin in the state in 20 years. He also served as National Associate Political Director on President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, and during the 2008 Obama Presidential Campaign he served in various leadership roles throughout multiple states.
Khan has been active in politics in his home state of Florida throughout his career, including when he served as Deputy Political Director in Florida for the 2008 general election for Obama.
Khan began his tenure with Mercury on February 15. Based in New York, he will also be working closely with the Mercury Florida and Washington, DC offices.
