Mercury Announces Hiring KCRA’s Executive Producer Carolyn Becker and Bilingual Media Expert Argelia León

Sacramento, Calif., Jan. 14, 2014 — Mercury announces hiring KCRA’s Executive Producer Carolyn Becker and Argelia León who is a communications professional specializing in Spanish media, environmental and health issue advocacy to its growing Sacramento office. Mercury is a strategy firm that specializes in public affairs, brand management, crisis communications, and political campaigns, and government affairs.

Carolyn Becker will be a senior vice president and has more than 15 years of experience in communications. She served as executive producer for two major television stations in Sacramento and knows what it takes to shape a news story. She is a master at bringing ideas to the table and motivating others to do the same. Before joining Mercury, Carolyn was an Executive Producer at KCRA, the No. 1 news station in Sacramento, where she supervised the content and execution of several live newscasts each day. Carolyn also has experience at two other television stations in Sacramento, giving her a wealth of connections in California’s capital.

Argelia León will be a director and has a well-rounded set of skills in community outreach and media experience with expertise in educating audiences about complex policy issues and garnering support and engagement through grassroots activation programs. She has conducted bilingual outreach on issue campaigns and led media relations programs tailored to minority outlets including Univision, Telefutura, and Vida en El Valle. Ms. León played an instrumental role in developing, implementing and advocating policies linking health, air quality and land use for Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails, a leading organization at the forefront of public health and air quality research and advocacy. As a trained journalist she has acquired excellent research and communication skills. Her areas of expertise include air quality, energy, transportation, and land use planning.
