Named one of South Carolina’s “Most Valuable Democrats” for the 2020 Democratic Primary by the Post & Courier newspaper.

Over a decade of experience advising candidates up and down the ballot, including Beto O’Rourke Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05), and former Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC-01).

John Moffett is a Vice President in Mercury’s Washington, DC office where he leads the firm’s grassroots efforts both in DC and across the states. John leans on his deep background in political campaigns, issue advocacy, and strategic communications to serve corporate, non- profit, and political clients.

John joined Mercury after three years in a VP role at SPEAK Strategic, a public affairs and communications firm in South Carolina. While there, he led the firm’s public engagement, coalition building, and grassroots & grasstops activation efforts for clients across a variety of sectors and issues, including healthcare, real estate, and telecom. Prior to his time in South Carolina, John spent time in DC at the Dewey Square group where he led multi-state grassroots stakeholder engagement campaigns on behalf of multinational corporations and advocacy organizations, including Microsoft and Exelon.

In addition to his grassroots and public engagement work, John has also served in senior roles on a variety of electoral campaigns. In South Carolina, he was named one of the state’s “Most Valuable Democrats” for the 2020 Democratic Primary by the Post & Courier newspaper. He also led in-state political operations for Beto O’Rourke’s presidential run and was a Senior Advisor for former Rep. Joe Cunningham’s 2018 and 2020 elections. Prior to his time in South Carolina, John also worked for Barack Obama’s re-election in 2012 and served in management and advisory roles for Rep. Don Beyer (VA-08), Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05), and former Rep. Nick Rahall (WV-03).

John holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He lives with his wife, Annika.
