Lei Chen is a Managing Director in Mercury’s Washington, D.C. office, specializing in providing advisory services to clients for business expansion, corporate strategy, public affairs, and crisis management in both China and the U.S.
Before joining Mercury, Lei served as the Head of China Advisory Business at the Starr Group, a global leader in insurance and financial services chaired by Maurice R. Greenberg. Mr. Greenberg is a prominent business leader in U.S.-China relations. He was recognized by Beijing for playing a key role in helping China open up to the world economically and diplomatically over the past 40 years, leading to China’s economic miracle.
Lei has extensive experience advising CEOs and leaders on achieving their strategic goals. Over the past decade, he has guided private, public, and social sector leaders on critical issues, including U.S. and China market entry, corporate strategy, M&A, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, as well as strategic communications and public affairs.

Lei graduated from Fairfield University with a master’s degree in finance. He also holds a dual MBA from Cornell University and Tsinghua University. Fluent in English and a native Mandarin speaker, Lei divides his time between the U.S. and China.
