Matt Coleman is a Senior Vice President in Mercury’s New York office. Matt brings over 20 years of combined experience in public affairs, government (federal, state, municipal) and the private sector.

Matt joined Mercury after serving as Regional Communications Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration across two White House administrations where he regularly advised senior government officials on media relations, message development and policy rollouts while translating complex government programs into easy-to-understand terms. Matt led the SBA’s agencywide communications and served as a national spokesman for the federal agency’s $1.3 trillion in COVID-19 small business economic aid programs such as the Paycheck Protection Program, Economic Injury Disaster Loans, Restaurant Revitalization Fund and Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program.

Throughout his SBA tenure, Matt worked with small businesses and lenders of all sizes to assist entrepreneurs in starting, growing and expanding their ventures by accessing capital, counseling and entrepreneurial development opportunities. He has been quoted as a subject matter expert by The New York Times, The Washington Post, POLITICO, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, New York Daily News, Associated Press, Reuters, Bloomberg, CNN, Barron’s, Forbes, El Nuevo Dia and El Vocero, among other national, regional and local media outlets.

As Senior Policy Advisor and Director of Public Affairs to the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead in New York, America’s largest township with 800,000 residents, Matt oversaw a cross functional team as he led the Supervisor’s communications, media relations and intergovernmental affairs portfolios. He also developed and led successful public-private municipal initiatives for a diverse constituency.

A former New York State Senate Majority Campaign Committee Political Director in Albany, Matt has also worked for a former New York City mayor as well as the New York State Assembly. Matt is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans and attended law school in South Florida. He is a Long Island native; he and his wife, Noelle, have a young daughter.
