John Lonergan serves as a partner at Mercury and is an experienced public affairs strategist, who develops and executes integrated campaigns designed to persuade policymakers, inform opinion leaders and alter the political environment in order to help clients achieve their business and policy objectives.
As a leader in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, John provides counsel to high-profile clients regarding complex legislative, regulatory and reputational issues. Typically, he will manage colleagues and outside consultants to execute project deliverables while ensuring continuity to a campaign’s core strategy and message. Through his experience at Mercury and in the political world, John has developed an expertise in multiple public affairs disciplines, including public opinion research, message development, opposition research, strategic communications, advocacy advertising and crisis management.
Recently, John’s work has focused on the telecommunications and technology sector – as the Internet has emerged as the world’s critical economic and information platform. The policy debate surrounding these sectors lives at the intersection of business, government and media that has been the hallmark of Mercury’s focus as a firm. This builds on top of John’s established portfolio in health care, having provided counsel to leading bio-pharma companies, the long term care sector and hospitals.
John’s political background includes stints on the campaigns of former Gov. George Pataki (R-NY) as well as the National Republican Senatorial Committee, specializing in research, polling and messaging. He is a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C.
