Matt Johnson is a Vice President in Mercury’s New York City office, where he specializes in strategic communications and media relations. With a vast network of top-tier media relationships in New York City and across the nation, Matt excels at crafting new narratives and identifying dynamic visual elements that bring brands to life and illustrate important messages that move businesses and industries forward.
Before joining Mercury, Matt spent 13 years working in newsrooms at the local and national level. During his time at NBC News, Matt worked in the network’s New York bureau as an assignment manager, leading coverage of breaking news stories across the northeast. Prior to that role, Matt was part of the NBC News 2020 political news gathering team helping to coordinate coverage of the 2020 election. Matt began his journalism career at NY1 News where he worked as an assignment editor, field producer and editorial researcher. Matt is a graduate of James Madison University and has a degree in journalism.
