Former White House and Homeland Security official Emilio González joins Mercury’s Florida team

Most recently, González served as the City Manager of the City of Miami, overseeing a workforce of 4,400 and a $1.7 Billion budget for Florida’s most- populous municipality

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, announced the addition of Dr. Emilio González as Co-Chairman of its Florida team. A former appointee of President George W. Bush, González brings decades of experience in senior roles in both Washington and Florida at the federal and municipal levels.

González joins Mercury after recently completing a successful two-year run as Manager of the City of Miami. Among his many accomplishments leading the Magic City was its financial turnaround. González left Miami with the second-lowest millage rate in 55 years, $2 million in reserves and the city’s highest bond rating in its 124-year history. Miami was also recognized for its government innovation technology. Prior to his tenure with the City, González was the CEO and Director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. Appointed by the Miami-Dade County Mayor, González led a workforce of more than 1,400 employees across Miami-Dade County’s five airports and also collaborated with federal partners such as the Department of Transportation, Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration. He also oversaw the day-to-day operations of MIA, which at the time was third in number of international passengers and first for international cargo among U.S. airports. In 2017, MIA welcomed a record 45 million passengers and secured agreements to have over 100 airlines flying into and out of it.

From 2006-2008, González served as Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services – a presidential nominee and Senate-confirmed post. During his tenure, he represented the Bush administration before Congress as its senior immigration official and led an enterprise-funded agency of 17,000 employees with a $3 billion budget. Prior to that role, González served as Director of Western Hemisphere Affairs for the National Security Council. In this role, he was the Bush White House’s expert on Central America and the Caribbean. Among his many accomplishments was the congressional approval of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) with Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

Former Counsel to Senate Leadership and Chief-of-Staff for Delaware Democratic Senator Chris Coons joins Bipartisan Government Relations Practice

Washington, D.C. – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, announced the addition of Adam Bramwell as Managing Director to its Washington, D.C. office. Adam brings years of experience in legislative, organizational, compliance and political strategy, having served as a chief of staff and general counsel in the United States Senate before launching an independent business consultancy.

Adam Bramwell joins Mercury after a more than two-decade career on Capitol Hill, most recently as Chief of Staff and General Counsel to U.S. Senator Christopher A. Coons (D-Delaware) between 2016 and 2019. In this position, Mr. Bramwell supervised the Senator’s Washington, DC office while advising on political, legislative and policy priorities at the national and state levels. As a long-time Senate veteran, Mr. Bramwell’s guidance was highly sought after, which is underscored by his leadership experience and Senator Coons’ respected standing and committee assignments – Appropriations, Judiciary, Foreign Relations, Ethics, and Democratic Steering and Outreach.

Before serving in Senator Coons’ office, Mr. Bramwell spent over thirteen years as General Counsel to the Secretary of the United States Senate. In this capacity, he oversaw the legal operations of a $40 million, 250-person organization charged with the administration of the Senate. Mr. Bramwell also served as the Senate’s primary legal advisor regarding Lobbying Disclosure Act guidance and compliance, and continuity of government planning, as well as a trove of other regulatory issues.

Earlier, he worked as counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Ethics providing legal advice to Senators, officers and employees regarding the Code of Official Conduct and ethics laws. Prior to his transition into politics in 1995, Mr. Bramwell worked in both the non-profit and private sectors, serving as counsel and director of field service at the I Have A Dream Foundation, as well as an associate at Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon in New York.

Welcomes former Senate Chief Al Barlas, Healthcare Strategist Randy Minniear, and Murphy Administration Education Expert LaVar Young

 

WESTFIELD, NJ – Mercury, a leading global, bipartisan public strategy firm, today announced the additions of three diverse seasoned professionals, adding even more bipartisan government experience and policy expertise to its ranks.

Veteran GOP senate chief of staff and political strategist Al Barlas, healthcare expert Randy Minniear, and education and local government expert LaVar Young have joined the firm. All three will serve in senior roles at Mercury’s Westfield, New Jersey office.

Al Barlas comes to Mercury with over 15 years of experience in government and Republican politics in New Jersey. Barlas began his career in Trenton as Legislative Director for then- Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon before serving as Chief of Staff to State Senator Kevin O’Toole. Upon Senator O’Toole’s retirement from the legislature to become Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Barlas then served as Chief of Staff for State Senator- Elect Kristin Corrado. Barlas’ political career also includes roles as County Chairman of the Essex County Republican Committee and campaign manager for multiple legislative and county races in northern New Jersey.

Randy Minniear spent over two decades in both healthcare and state government affairs. Most recently, Minniear served as Executive Vice President of External Affairs for the Hudson County- based integrated health system, CarePoint Health, where he managed day-to-day operations. Prior to CarePoint, Minniear served for over a decade as the Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Policy for the New Jersey Hospital Association. He started out his career in state politics as Legislative Director and then Chief of Staff to former State Senate President John Bennett.

LaVar Young brings nearly 20 years of proven success in advising local municipalities, government agencies, non-profit organizations and political campaigns. Prior to Mercury, Young served as the Director of the Office of Civic and Social Engagement for the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) in Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration, where he was responsible for supporting the Governor and Education Commissioner in executing an operational blueprint and serving as a liaison between NJDOE and New Jersey’s 661 school districts. Additionally, Young served as the New Jersey State Director for the Black Alliance for Educational Options (NJBAEO). Under his leadership, NJBAEO was successful in recruiting and mobilizing New Jersey parents to actively support parental choice to empower families and increase quality educational options for working-class families.
